Biography: Jon Antilla was born and raised in a small town called Republic, in the State of Michigan in United States of America. He received his BS degree in chemistry at Northern Michigan University studying under Professor Jerome A. Roth until 1995. He completed his PhD degree from University of Chicago in 2000 with William D. Wulff, and then joined the research lab of Stephen L. Buchwald at MIT for an NIH NCI postdoctoral fellowship from 2000-2003. In 2003 he started his independent career at The University of Mississippi and continued his work at The University of South Florida since 2005, where he achieved a full professor of chemistry (in 2016). Jon has also had full-time positions at Tianjin University and Zhejiang Sci-Tech University in China (2017-2023), where he both lead a research team and managed curriculum development (Tianjin) and was the head of the organic division (Zhejiang). Jon had a visiting Professor role in USA (in 2023) at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania and was also Department Chairman in the Louisiana State University at Shreveport in 2024.

(Louisiana State University at Shreveport)化学系主任。

Research:

Jon’s research has largely centered on organocatalysis, the use of small organic (non-metal based) molecules as catalysts. Organocatalysis is considered by many to be an attractive, and potential “green” alternative to traditional metal-based catalysis. His research specifically seeks to develop new reaction methodologies that utilize chiral phosphoric acids and their chiral phosphate metal catalysts for synthetically useful transformations. More recently his group’s focus on sustainable chemistry also includes the use of non-toxic, environmentally benign, and abundant metals partnered with the chiral phosphates he has developed as ligands

Jon Antilla has more than 70 publications and an H-index = 44, and has been Cited >9100 times
